There are many uniforms or styles of dress that are associated with sports. For example, golfers often wear polo shirts, American football players feature helmets and shoulder pads, hockey goalies wear masks, and baseball players wear baseball caps. However, there are a few sports that feature uniforms that are a little easier on the eye. Below are five sports that feature tights and shorts.

Bicycle Riding

Whether they are professionals racing in the Tour de France or someone who rides a few miles a week, many cyclists prefer to wear super tight shorts when pedaling on bike paths or competing in major races. Some of the most popular tight shorts worn by cyclists are the spandex variety. The reason for spandex’s popularity is they are padded in all the right places and are flexible, allowing a full range of motion when pedaling.

Running

Running is another sport where participants favor tight workout shorts. Runners prefer to wear tight shorts because of the way they fit. Loose shorts leave the runner more susceptible to chafing, which occurs when the fabric of the shorts is rubbing against the skin. Since tight gym shorts fit so snuggly against the body, chaffing is unlikely to occur.

Tennis

While men have always donned shorts when playing tennis, most female tennis players wear skirts. However, young, attractive professional players such Anna Kournikova and the Williams Sisters have started wearing tight shorts during their matches. While some females feel comfortable wearing shorts, most still prefer the more traditional skirts.

Volleyball

Volleyball is another sport where players wear tight shorts. While the shorts worn by men and women during volleyball matches are not as tight as those worn by runners or bicycle riders, they still posses an element of snugness. When playing beach volleyball, tighter shorts can prevent sand from the buttocks and groin area.

Aerobics

Most women who take aerobic classes prefer wearing tight fitting shorts. One reason is that the shorts are made from durable materials such as nylon, spandex, or a polyester blend, which allow women to stretch and not worry about the material tearing. Another reason most women participating in aerobic exercises prefer snugger fitting shorts is that some loose fitting shorts may allow the crotch area to become exposed. While at times tighter shorts may not leave much to the imagination, they at least cover up the private parts.

Great article! Very informative and now I understand why bikers wear such tight shorts.

This is a good article. I totally agree with the exposed crotch example. I have been in aerobics for a long time and you would be shocked at how many women wear loose shorts that expose areas that are meant to be covered up! LOL! However, make no mistake, we also like tight shorts because it allows us to show off our buns that we have spent timeless hours and money toning up!
