The more you practice, the better you become. To those driven by sports, practice is everything; they practice alone if no one else is available.

However, even those who are totally committed know some skills cannot be practiced alone. The pitching machine was invented for the ball player to practice batting without a pitcher. Batting cages are one way to practice your swing but not every player has immediate access to one.

Since their invention, there have been pitching machines available for every player or team. There are inexpensive, simple used pitching machines that are lightweight, portable, and can be used anywhere. These pitching machines for baseball work in different ways. A scoop machine’s basic design loads a ball using pulleys into the scoop where hydraulics propel it into motion. A wheel machine feeds the ball into a wheel that hurls it towards the batter; again hydraulics usually power the wheels. A cannon pitching machine works by pushing the ball out of a tube with yet another hydraulic system. Any of these will pitch out a ball consistently for every batter. It is perfect for learning the basics, for the back yard player, or for practice by the neighborhood team playing for fun and bragging right.

If you are on a competitive team or if you’re just a player dreaming of making it rich with their batting stats, there are more advanced baseball pitching machines you can use. They come in varies sizes, weights, have different features, different capabilities, and varying range regarding cost. They are powered by electricity or battery packs and can pitch a ball with a speed from 25mph to upwards of 100 mph.

The mechanics on sophisticated pitching machines allow the ball to be pitch simulating a fastball pitch, a curve ball, sinkers, or a slider. These machines are designed to allow you to program in your own practice needs. For example, set it to throw a fast ball over and over, or set it throw at random a fastball then a curve ball, etc. In addition, you set the speed of the pitch. The possibilities to improve your game through your batting skills are endless.

One amazing aspect of America’s favorite pastime is that people of all ages play baseball. Whether it is a casual backyard activity or organized competition between two teams, baseball equipment is a critical component in the outcome of the sporting event. The levels of play range from youth to high school, amateur, college and professional. At each level, baseball field equipment requirements are different and maintaining that equipment is both an issue of safety and performance.

The first major difference to note is the transition from aluminum or alloy bats to wood in the higher levels of play. No one will argue that a great offense requires great bats! The lightweight quality of aluminum youth baseball equipment is appropriate to younger players who are still physically developing, causing less stress on joints and tendons. The ball ricochets better off aluminum, swings faster but will have greater vibration. When an alloy bat begins to loose its “pop”, it is time for a new bat. Wooden bats are required in college and above levels of play. The quality of wood bats varies widely due to the type of wood and grain of the bat. Tighter wood fibers, as with maple wood, are more expensive but produce a better “pop” due to their hardness. Any signs of splintering or a crack in a wood bat demands replacement.

The most popular companies in the marketplace are Wilson, Easton, Rawlings, Mizuno and DeMarini, but there are many other manufacturers of baseball bats and baseball training equipment who are identified by their specialties in design, appearance and quality. The second difference of note between the levels of play and associated equipment would be predominant in the catcher’s position. While full head helmets with face guard are safety requirements up to high school, a skullcap may be used in college, amateur or pro levels. Proper fit either way is essential and a fracture to any component of catcher’s headgear, as well as batting helmets, requires replacement.

Replacing baseball equipment is not just an issue of wear and tear, but required as a player advances to higher levels of play. Becoming the best athlete you can be depends not only on your skills and on abilities, but on your equipment as well-the physical tools of your trade. Whenever you feel that your skills have outgrown your equipment or your equipment just isn’t up to snuff anymore, go out and look for some discount baseball equipment.

When you want to practice your baseball swings but you don’t have a big enough patio to fit backyard batting cages or don’t have enough money to hook up your pad with a home batting cage there is no better option than heading out to some commercial batting cages. For a relatively low cost a batting cage can help you practice your swing, supply you with an infinite amount of baseballs, and give you a fun opportunity to hang out with your baseball loving friends.

If, whether for practice or just to have a good time, you have decided to make a trip out to your local batting cage to hit some balls you are going to need to bring along a few things. Some batting cages will supply you with the essential equipment and almost all batting cages will provide the baseballs for you but you can never be too safe when it comes to these sorts of things.

There are four essential items you cannot forget to bring to the batting cage. If you misplace even one of these items and the batting cage business doesn’t have any to spare you are going to ruin your trip and be forced to return home.

A Helmet:

Most batting cages these days are equipped with mechanical pitchers. These machines can pitch a baseball at you consistently over 70MPH so taking one to the bare noggin is not a good idea. You should always bring your own helmet to a batting cage, even though some places will have some to borrow, because you will be sure to have one that fits, feels good, and won’t give you head lice.

If you don’t already own a helmet for batting practice you can stop by any baseball supply store, some batting cages even have one connected, and pick one up. Make sure that the helmet fits snug on your skull because the last thing you want is for a machine slung fast ball to hit you in the temple.

Your Bat:

It might be obvious to the skilled baseball player but it seems like so many people forget to bring a baseball bat to the batting cages. For some reason most people think that a batting cage must automatically supply baseball bats to its patrons but this just isn’t the case.

Cheap batting cages may only have the cages and the balls and maybe one or two baseball bats. They are never going to have high quality bats and they are never going to have the exact bat you use during a game. If you want to want to get the most out of your practice time you should always practice with the baseball bat that you are going to use during a live game; so make sure to bring yours along!

Some Shin Guards:

Baseball isn’t known for its protective padding . . . → Read More: What You Should Bring to the Batting Cage

America’s pastime has even spread across the globe into places like Japan, Africa, and a little bit around Europe. More and more people are picking up baseball bats and baseball gloves to run out on the field and play this beloved sport.

If you’re new to the game and interested in purchasing a baseball glove, or if your son or daughter is picking up the game and you need to buy them a glove of their own, you need to learn which glove is right for you and your style of play before you spend any money. Allow this article to point you in the right direction and give you the guidelines you should use when you finally embark on your baseball glove shopping spree.

First You Need to Know What Your Position Is.

If you’re thinking of playing on a baseball team you should know that not every position is made equal. There are three main position types that you should consider before you make any big purchases. Those three archetype positions are: the outfielder, the infielder, and the catcher. Each position has a unique baseball glove designed especially for them.

The Catcher’s Glove:

A catcher’s glove is more like a giant mitten than a glove. It is designed to take the most amount of force possible because the catcher will be slammed with pitch after pitch at close range if the pitcher is doing his job right. For safety and comfort the glove is designed with a ton of padding that makes it difficult to catch baseballs in any position other than straight on. You wouldn’t want to be caught trying to catch a fly ball with a catcher’s mitt.

The Infielder’s and Midfielder’s Glove:

Taking a step out a little further from the catcher are those players on the bases. Anyone who stands in the dirt diamond is considered an infielder. The gloves on these guys are generally a little bit smaller than the outfielder’s gloves and they prefer to have closed webbing. These guys need to be able to catch and release the ball as fast as possible and most of the time will be catching a ball thrown or hit straight at them.

The Outfielder’s Glove:

Outfielders are the ones you can see picking up grass, bored out of their minds, during little league games. These guys are the athletes standing way out in the back of the baseball field that will be catching all of the fly balls and preventable home runs. The outfielder’s glove is usually a little longer than . . . → Read More: How to Choose the Right Baseball Glove

I’ll bet you a hundred fly balls that it’s the baseball bat. Really, when you boil it down, the entire game of baseball can really be played with two people: the pitcher and the hitter. The fundamental relationship between the pitcher and the hitter is what created the backyard batting cage.

Batting cages are great tools for practicing your hitting game and (if you choose not to use a pitching machine) they can help you with your pitching too. Whether it was your exhausting experience running around the outfield collecting the balls you’ve hit or whether it’s just too cold to play outside, you’ve come to the internet interested in batting cages.

Before you go out and buy the batting cage of your dreams there are a few things you need to consider. Not all batting cages are made equal and there are certain qualities of all batting cages that need to be addressed. Choosing your batting cage wisely will allow you to get the most out of your practice experience and better prepare you for the real thing.

Here’s what you need to know about the batting cages you’re looking to buy: How Durable is the Batting Cage?

Your batting cage needs to be as durable as you can afford. You have to consider the fact that throughout the lifespan of your batting cage you and your friends are going to be launching baseballs at high speeds in all different directions. The last thing you want to happen is for a fly ball to catch the batting cage in a weak spot and send the whole structure crumbling down on your head.

To determine the durability of a particular batting cage you want to look at two things: the structural piping and the netting. We’ll go a little bit more into detail on the netting farther down the page but let me briefly cover the piping.

You want to build your batting cage out of materials that can withstand both the elements and your constant beatings. You should look to good metal materials like steel or iron and stay away from the aluminum ones. The only reason you would want to buy an aluminum batting cage is if you want it to be light weight and portable batting cage. Otherwise stick to the sturdy, heavier, metals to create the backbone of your batting cage.

How Easily Put Together is the Batting Cage?

When you first buy your batting cage you have to remember that you will be the . . . → Read More: What You Need to Know About Buying Batting Cages

Baseball may be America’s favorite sport but it comes with one major drawback: stiff baseball gloves.
Rawlings Playmaker Series PL195CB Baseball Lowest Price: $10.52 Rawlings Player Preferred Series PP130R Lowest Price: $49.95 Mizuno Franchise GFN1153 Baseball Fielder’s Mitt Lowest Price: $54.99
Browse More

Baseball gloves are notorious for being difficult to break in, they come just before hockey skates on the “Brand New Ones Cause Blisters” scale and they can deter any good natured American from playing the game if not broken in correctly.

If you’ve recently bought a brand new baseball glove, whether it’s a one of the Wilson baseball gloves, Rawlings baseball gloves, or just one of the cheap baseball gloves, you are probably anxious to begin playing with it. Please take a few moments to read this article over and follow the steps provided. Properly breaking in your baseball glove will assure you the most comfortable experience possible when playing the game and a comfortable playing experience is always a little more fun.

Breaking in your baseball gloves doesn’t have to be a difficult procedure. There are four simple steps you can take to give your glove the best possible flex and most accommodating pocket size. Don’t worry, after reading this you won’t have to run over your baseball glove with your pick-up truck anymore.

Step 1: Condition the Baseball Glove

Conditioning your baseball glove is possibly the most important step of all. Baseball gloves, even youth baseball gloves and custom baseball gloves, are made with leather and other similar materials and will crack and tear during the breaking in process if not conditioned properly. You can soften the leather of your glove by applying glove oil or cream to the surface of the glove.

Most baseball glove manufacturers will sell specific glove oils for their gloves but you don’t really need to get the specific brand oil to be successful. You can apply it directly with your bare hands or use an application pad, just keep in mind that a little oil goes a long way.

After you have oiled up your baseball glove sufficiently, making sure to work the oil into all of the nooks and crannies of the outside of the glove and in the mitt, wipe it down with a dry paper towel to remove any excess oil.

You’re going to want to repeat this oiling process whenever you feel the glove is getting dry. After breaking in the glove you won’t have to go through all of the steps again but it is a good idea to condition your glove once or twice per baseball season.

Step 2: Shaping the Baseball Gloves

To shape your baseball glove you are going to need a few things.
