While some of them are specially designed for off road use, others are only meant to be used on road. The external casing of these is constructed to eliminate or at least reduce the head damage in case of a fall impact. Since they are vital for any rider, there is no wonder they are fairly expensive.

The size of it is the first thing to consider when buying your custom motocross helmets. You will easily be able to tell if it you’re trying on is too small but it’s not always so easy to tell if it’s too big. If it is too large it will not provide the protection needed to get you through an accident. Your head will move around inside of it and this can actually increase the impact to your skull. If it stays too tight on your head or makes you feel uncomfortable, neck aches and headaches may appear too. You have to get the best that fits just right.

Vendors are normally not allowed to sell discount motocross helmets if they are not accompanied with a specific safety certificate. However, checking for it yourself is always recommended. You should be able to see an individual safety score or crash ranking attached by the manufacturer on each. Always buy from reputable dealers only so that you can have it replaced or refunded if there are any problems with it.

The last thing you want to consider is the aesthetic appeal of it. Look at yourself in the mirror with it on and ask yourself these questions: Do I feel confident wearing this? Do the designs on this adequately describe my character on the race track? Do the colors of this match my team's and my sponsor's colors?

Now that you have a good idea about things to consider when buying one, you have to learn how to use it properly. Remember to tighten up your chin strap to avoid losing it in the event of an unfortunate incident. When you are not riding your bike keep it in a safe place. When you are traveling or moving, make sure you place it safely in a sports bag or utility box where it will not turn around and hit any sharp objects. In addition, be cautious never drop it because motocross helmets break inside as they would in case of a crash. If it gets damaged it won't be able to provide adequate protection in the event of a real crash.
