Why You Should Get Into Female Wrestling

Female wrestling, among other forms of full contact one on one female combat is not a recent phenomenon but has a long and rich history that goes back to ancient times. Women’s wrestling was encouraged and widely practiced among Spartan girls all through the Spartan period of prominence in the fifth and fourth centuries BCE. It was even practiced by these girls all through the Roman and Byzantine periods when the Spartan way of life was regarded as somewhat quaint and not taken very seriously.

More recently Parisian wrestling women were a favorite subject for many late nineteenth century Parisian artists and photographers. Obviously, these artists considered these women to be objects of beauty and the physical exercise the wrestling was providing was probably a big contributing factor to this impression. Said exercise was certainly beneficial to the Spartan girls who were considered the most beautiful women in the ancient world for centuries.

Today in the United States there are something like 5000 girls competing at the high school level alone and many of them probably end up competing in female pro wrestling entertainment events such as GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) and WOW (Women of Wrestling). Once again these ladies have got to be some of the sexiest creatures in sports and they have done it on their own terms while maintaining their femininity. Pro female wrestling organizations like WOW and GlOW are not a recent phenomenon in the United States. Women’s Wrestling demonstration bouts for the purposes of entertainment have been around since the early nineteenth century.

This long legacy of female professional wrestling has today reached its most popular and fun incarnation with the above-mentioned events and not only for the reasons of its glamour. You see woman are much more composed than men, they are able to control themselves much more effectively and are less likely to resort to violence. However if one pushes a woman far enough, then watch out because she will kick or at least attempt to kick anybody’s behind. This is why people love a good ‘cat fight’ or enjoy seeing the women getting into full contact combat mode. They tend to put their all into it and do it passionately and perhaps more so than men.

In addition, female submission wrestling should not only be of benefit to a woman in terms of physical fitness but also of psychological value. The full contact nature of the sport can certainly help work out those everyday stresses. All these factors have contributed to the popularity and endurance value of women’s wrestling down through the centuries.
